I think that i like One Piece a little more than i really should. I got it in passing just thinking, "hey, i'll see what all the hype around this anime is", but then i got hooked. the first episode didn't quite make it to the top of my must see list, but this anime is much like a trainwreck, in the fact that every time you watch it it just gets more and more interesting.

so. *spoiler warning - spoilers may occur when read*

let's talk about one piece, shall we?

Characters - 9.5/10

Monkey D. Luffy is the most loveable idiot ever known to anime, and trust me, there have been many. it's not that he's a genius, nor is he good looking, but he knows what he wants. Zoro, the second member of the pirate crew, is also interesting. The fact that he uses three swords still confuses me somewhat, but i have a firm belief that it will be explained sometime in the future of the show. The rest of the crew that Luffy is putting together are interesting, although Nami's endless hunt for treasure is a little awkward at moments. Still, you know what to expect from each Crew Member, sometimes you wish they'd mix it up, but these guys are the kind that you get to know real well in just a few episodes.

Now, about the bad guys. Honestly here, they aren't that bad... Just really really dumb sometimes. Honestly, Buggy the clown? Kuro the Black Cat? buggy's crew all look like they belong to the circus, whilst Kuro's all wear cat ears >.<... sometimes i wish that the Badguys were less predictable, but still. They each have their own ambitions, their own lives and worldviews, which makes the anime that much more enjoyable.

Storyline - 8/10
What? a storyline? well, the story is like this- Luffy, As a young boy, hangs out with pirates at the local bar, one of which, the Captian Shanks, he really looks up to and respects. These pirates happened upon a Fruit, The Devil's Fruit, which gives the power of a sea devil to whoever eats it, in exchange for the consumer's ability to swim. Things happen and luffy ends up eating the Devil's Fruit, which makes it so his body is stretchy, making him the rubber man.
The pirates leave, and Luffy makes a promise with Shanks that one day he'll see him again. Luffy Promises that at that time, he will be a powerful pirate, The pirate King.
This leads to the current day, where luffy is collecting a crew so that he can travel to the Gold Line, where he can acquire the Treasure "One Piece" - All the treasure in the world. That about wraps up the story.

Technical aspects are as such: each arc Luffy and Crew befriend a new ally and defeat a new villian. While this may seem methodic and tiresome, the new comrades are refreshing, and the enemies are fun.

Also, currently there are 150 epsiodes of this. wow. i mean, it's taken me two weeks to finish 17 episodes, how am i gonna even watch all those? the length is kinda depressing.

Music - 4/10
Ok, so the music isn't that good. In fact, the only time that i notice it is when they do annoying back story and have a lighter version of the theme song playing in the background. Also, the commercial break things(?) have a nice little diddy that go along with them.

let's not talk music anymore. it's depressing.

Impact - 8.5/10
Will i remember the specifics of this anime 5 years from now? Probably not. Will i remember the story, and the characters? Yes, i will. I'll remember the names of the crew, and the fact that one of the members is in fact a pirate ninja. a tricky subject indeed.

Shorter Review:
so, overall, i'd give this anime a 7.5-8, even though i love it soo much, it isn't a grand tour-deforce that everyone must see. This is excellent if you like heart-warming, action packed humoriffic(?) anime-y goodness, but if not, i'd say stay away.
